Lori Marie Key started off the United States presidential inauguration celebration by singing “Amazing Grace” in honor of Americans who have died from COVID-19.
The nurse from Michigan performed at the event organized by the Presidential Inaugural Committee which was held at the Lincoln Memorial.
In-coming president Joe Biden was impressed with Key’s performance and said afterwards “I mean this from the bottom of my heart, if there are any angels in heaven, they’re all nurses. We know from our family experience what you do. The courage, the pain you absorb for others. So thank you, thank you.”
Lori Key went viral on social media during the early days of the coronavirus pandemic when she was singing in the Michigan hospital where she works.
She then was contacted by the inauguration committee about participating in the event.
Other performers who took to the stage include Gospel singer Yolanda Adams and Cardinal Wilton Gregory, archbishop of Washington who delivered the invocation.
